Braunton
Braunton is an English village in the west of Barnstaple in North Devon.
Location
The trail South West Coast Path National Trail runs through a few kilometers of the coast remote location. Likewise, the Tarka Trail passes through the village. The dunes of Braunton Burrows is west and served repeatedly as a film set. Today's Nature Reserve in 1943 training area for the American soldiers who practiced the landing in Normandy there.
History
St Brannock was 550 as a missionary from South Wales. Brannock was a priest in the household of Brychan, King of Brecknock. He married the daughter of the king, however, disapproved of his leaving the royal house. At that time many Welsh came to this side of the Bristol Channel.
Brannock came to northern Devon and landed at the mouth of the nearby Taw. He founded the Christian community. Later, the first church was built at Caen, and thus founded the place.
The village had a railway station on the now-defunct railway line from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe, the remains of which are partly still be seen today.
