Breandán Ó hEithir

Breandán Ó hEithir ( born January 18, 1930 in Galway, † 26 October 1990) was an Irish writer and journalist. His works he wrote in Irish and English.

Life

Ó hEithir was born in 1930 in Galway City, but spent his childhood first on Inishmore, since his parents were working as teachers there. He completed his schooling in Galway City and studied three years later and Irish history at UCG, but reached no conclusion.

Professionally, he was versatile, before he began to write full-time. At first he worked at Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge and then as an editor at the publishing house Sáirséal agus Dill and the newspaper The Irish Press. Ó hÉithir was a regular contributor for the Irish Times and published texts in the Comhar; for both, he worked as a columnist. He also worked as a journalist with Raidió Teilifís Éireann ( RTÉ ) during programs such Féach and Cúrsaí.

In 1957 he married Catherine von Hildebrand, with whom he had five children.

Ó hEithir was a nephew of the famous Irish writer Liam O'Flaherty.
