Brechmorhoga

Brechmorhoga mendax

Brechmorhoga is a 16 kinds of dragonflies genus. The genus belongs to the subfamily Trithemistinae and was described in 1894 by William Forsell Kirby. As Generotyp was an animal of the hitherto unknown type Brechmorhoga grenadensis which was later downgraded to a subspecies of the species Brechmorhoga pertinax. The distribution area extends from the southwestern United States through Central America to northern Argentina.

Features

Brechmorhoga species are relatively medium to large, black dragonflies and reach lengths of 40-62 mm. The abdomen (abdomen ) and chest (thorax ), some white and yellow markings and spots on the black base color. The wings are transparent.

Habitat

The adults of the genus Brechmorhoga occur along rivers and hunt in particular in areas where the water flows quickly through rocky terrain.

System

The systematics of the species is not fully understood by far and is about many types even if they are really distinct species ambiguity. In the future, more species are likely to be added. At least one other species still awaits its description. Also by the larvae few are described. The following species are counted to the genus Brechmorhoga:
