Brehm's Tiger Parrot

Brehm Parrot ( Psittacella brehmii )

The Brehm Parrot ( Psittacella brehmii ) is a species of bird in the genus binding parakeets. The species is endemic to the island of New Guinea.

It is named after the German zoologist Alfred Brehm.

Features

The Brehm Parrot is approximately 24 cm and a weight of 94-120 g by far the largest binding parakeet. The male has a gray beak, the head is dark brown with a yellow stripe on the side. Back and neck are green-black banded, the wings, the belly and the tail are green, the underside of tail brownish. In the female lacks the yellow stripe head and the chest is yellow and black banded. The young resemble the females.

Habitat

At its habitat includes tropical mountain forests and subalpine zones bushes at a height level from 1500 to 2600 m, on the Huon Peninsula and up to 3800 m.

Nutrition

He eats fruits, seeds, berries, buds and leaves.
