The Breitenstein is a 1,622 m high mountain in the eastern part of the Bavarian Alps, in the German state of Bavaria. As most northwestern peak of Wendelstein Group, he is located in a prominent place, but stands in the shadow of the higher Wendelstein ( 1,838 m). To the north it aborts with steep rock walls, mostly forested south-facing slopes more gently down into Leitzachtal. A geological feature of the mountain is the so-called width Steiner shutters, a natural rock arch.

Bases and routes

On the Breitenstein perform several ways that are accessible to November as a simple hike from May. From birch stone near the easel the normal route via the Kesselalm ( 1,278 m) and the Hubertushütte ( 1,535 m) in about 2 hours to the summit runs, another trail leads over the Bucheralm and the 1,575 m high secondary summit ( Bockstein called, with summit cross ) are also in 2 hours to the Breitenstein. Below the pig mountain summit is the Aiblinger Cabin, a self-catering lodge the DAV section Bad Aibling.

Winter Mountaineering

In the winter, numerous ski tours and snowshoe hikers from the inn Winklstüberl over the Bucheralm to the summit road. Upstream of the south, the somewhat nondescript pig mountain rises ( 1,518 m ) on which things get much quieter, but the view is rewarding. On the normal route of the Kesselalm other hand, focuses sledders are encountered.
