Brendlorenzen is a district of the town of Bad Neustadt in Lower Franconia. The two kilometer road village arose from the convergence of places Brend and Lorenzen.

Name

Etymology

The name of the hamlet Lorenzen is derived from the local chapel of St. Lawrence. Brend is named after the river Brend, in the valley of the district is located.

History

The community Brend was first documented in 742, as the church of St. Martin was assigned to the newly established Diocese of Würzburg. In the traditional scriptures the parish church in Brendlorenzen and the round church at the fortress Marienberg be referred to as the oldest churches in the Diocese of Würzburg. The parish church was probably 706 consecrated by the St. Willibrord.

The construction of the church is certainly closely related to the establishment of the royal court of Charlemagne in salt. Use as a baptistery was probably also the reason for the replacement of the St. Martin Church as patron of the Holy John the Baptist.

Brendlorenzen Beginning settlement area long before its first mention. During excavations in 2001 in the development area of Brendlorenzen traces of a settlement from the Late La Tène period were found ( cellar-like pit houses, waste pits, remains of six pottery kilns ).

On January 1, 1972, until then independent municipality Lebenhan was incorporated. On May 1, 1978 Brendlorenzen became integrated with Lebenhan in the town of Bad Neustadt an der Saale.

Education

For the pre-school education of children Brendlorenzener are two Catholic kindergartens, St. Joseph and St. Martin as well as a municipal kindergarten available. Brendlorenzen has its own primary school, visit the children from the neighboring Lebenhan.

Voluntary Sector

The TSV Brendlorenzen is the largest sports club in the district of Rhön- grave field (at times up to 1400 members). It now consists of eight departments: football, athletics, table tennis, cycling, volleyball, triathlon, basketball and badminton.

Is known nationwide especially the cycling department which hosted the summit Rhoener ride. This event offers many different cycling routes (about 30 to 220 km) for both the grassroots as well as for trained cyclists of all abilities.
