Brewer Phillips

Brewer Phillips ( born November 16, 1924 in Coila, Mississippi; † August 30, 1999 in Chicago, Illinois ) was an American blues guitarist. He is best known as a member of The House Rockers, the backing band of Hound Dog Taylor.

Life and work

Phillips grew up on a plantation, where he has been done at a young age by Memphis Minnie familiar with the blues and where he heard many blues greats live. After he had moved to Memphis, he was a professional musician and played with Bill Harvey and Roosevelt Sykes. In 1960 he became a member of the House Rockers, the band of Hound Dog Taylor. As the band played without bass, he imitated the bass lines often claimed on his guitar. After the death of Taylor 1976, he played sporadically with JB Hutto, Lil ' Ed and with Cub Koda and took on plates remained until his death in 1999 but always in the shadow of the other blues greats of Chicago.
