Brian and Michael
Brian & Michael are a British musical duo, which became known in his home by his hit Match Talk Men and Match Talk Cats and Dogs from 1978.
Band History
The duo is a project of the two originating from Manchester rock musician and guitarist Kevin Parrott and Michael Coleman. The two had met in 1965 and Coleman joined as bassist and singer Parrott's band The Big Sound. They were mainly on the continent in northern Europe on the road, so as backing group of Danish rock -and- roll singer skirt Nalle. After the split of the band Parrott went back to Manchester to Rock Band Academy, with whom he also released several albums.
Coleman joined a folk band and distinguished himself as a songwriter. In the 70s he began to be interested in the Manchester -born painter LS Lowry and tried to musically put them into a song. After Lowry died in 1976, Coleman played the song from the " 'Match Talk Men" first at a gig in a folk club. This " matchstick men" had been a typical motif in Lowry's paintings. Hence the idea to release the song as a single was born.
Together with his former partner Brian Burke, with whom he formed the comedy duo Burke & Jerk, she wanted to appear as Brian & Michael, Kevin Parrott was involved as a producer on the project. When Burke got out after the single had already been completed, Kevin Parrott took his place, to a change of the artist name had to be dispensed with but.
There were the brass instruments of Tintwistle Brass Band and the children's choir singing the St Winifred's School Choir to the vocals and the guitars of the two musicians. After the match, Talk Talk Match Men And Cats And Dogs was then published in late 1977, it took a few months until it finally reluctantly debuted at number 45 on the British charts. After that, it became a major hit, reaching No. 1 in April 1978, where it remained for three weeks.
The single reached gold and Michael Coleman received for the lyrics of the Ivor Novello Award. The school choir of St Winifred's helped the popularity later at a separate number - one hit.
After the success Parrott and Coleman made as Brian & Michael on, it produced two albums, but they succeeded no further Duo more success. Since she also attended as a producer and as a songwriter for other for success, they finished the project again in 1980. Supported by them successes included the production of The Sparrow of the Ramblers, Ken Dodd's last chart hit Hold My Hand, written by Coleman, and It's ' Orrible Being In Love ( When You're 8 ½) by Claire & Friends, where Claire Usher a student of St Winifred's was. While Michael Coleman remained faithful to the music business, Parrott later moved into advertising.
