Brian Downey (drummer)

Brian Michael Downey ( born January 27, 1951 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish drummer, most notably known as a member of the rock band Thin Lizzy. Together with Phil Lynott Downey was the only constant member of the group until its preliminary resolution in 1983.

Already in his youth met Downey Phil Lynott, who attended the same school. Prior to the establishment of Thin Lizzy, Downey member had been in several bands, among others, Sugar Shack, and was then persuaded by Lynott, the band join Orphanage. Together with guitarist Eric Bell and keyboard player Eric Wrixon they eventually formed the quartet Thin Lizzy.

Besides working for Thin Lizzy, he was also involved in Phil Lynotts solo albums, as well as multiple albums, Gary Moore, including Still Got the Blues.

After Lynotts death in 1986, Downey played only intermittently in the line-up with John Sykes, Scott Gorham, Darren Wharton and Marco Mendoza. Since 2010, he is again a member of the formation.
