Brian Lochore

Sir Brian James Lochore, ONZ, KNZM, OBE ( born September 3, 1940 in Masterton ) is a former New Zealand rugby union player and coach. He played on the positions of the lock and the number 8 From 1963 to 1971 he was at 68 games of the national team ( All Blacks ) are used, including 25 internationals. In 46 games ( including 18 caps), he was team captain. As coach of the All Blacks 1987 he was World Champion.

Career

Lochore wanted to be a jockey originally, but was too large and too heavy to why he started playing rugby. He played from 1959 at national level for the Masterton rugby club and for the Provincial Association Wairarapa Bush Rugby Football Union. He made his international debut as a 23 -year-old in October 1963 against the selection of the University of Oxford. Three months later he arrived in London for the first time against England in an international match for use.

After five more internationals Lochore was determined in 1966 by coach Fred Allen for the international game series against the British Lions captain of the All Blacks. He remained in this role at until his resignation in September 1970. In July 1971, he reinforced after several months of break, again because of numerous absences due to injury weakened team.

Then Lochore worked as a coach for his club Masterton, Wairarapa - Bush from 1980 for the National Provincial Championship. In 1981, he won the championship title of the second division in 1982 and managed to move up to the first division. In 1983 he was appointed as assistant coach of the All Blacks, two years later to coach. He led New Zealand in 1987 at the first World Cup for the world title. Lochore worked as a team manager during the World Cup 1995.

For his services to rugby Lochore was knighted in 1999 and inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame. He is chairman of the conservation organization Queen Elizabeth II National Trust. Named after him is the Lochore Cup, a trophy in the amateur Heartland Championship League.
