Brian Newbould

Brian Newbould ( born February 26, 1936) is a British composer, conductor and musicologist.

Life

Newbould was educated at Gravesend Grammar School. He worked for a time as a music critic Scottish newspapers and the Guardian. In 1965 he was appointed as a lecturer at the University of Leeds.

Of special importance was Newbould for his work on Franz Schubert. He has become known to a larger audience through its complement of the third movement of the Unfinished by Schubert. The Schubert fully designed, but not written down in entire score Symphony in E major is another important work Newboulds. 1978 his elaboration of Schubert's sketches material was listed at this symphony by the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Cheltenham Festival. Newbould has more then sketches Schubert - for the first time in facsimile by Ernst Hilmar - completed and provided to a performance version.

Among the other composers with whom Newbould be dealt in detail, including Mozart, Brahms, Elgar and Ravel.

2001 Newbould was professor emeritus at the University of Hull as a professor.

From 1994 to 2002 Newbould was also chairman of the Schubert Institute ( SIUK ).
