British Rail MPV

The Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV ) of the Windhoff web and system technology is arisen from the CargoSprinter modular vehicle concept.

Description

The MPV is similar in basic structure to the end car of the cargo sprinter. It consists of a flat car -like car with driver cabin and engine. On the bed of various assemblies can be mounted using twistlock for the maintenance of rail tracks and overhead lines, for fire and rescue operations as well as for the transport of goods. This vehicle is offered in two - and four-axle design as well as " Multipurpose Wagon" in a wagon version.

Use

The UK network operator, British Rail in 1999 bought eight MPVs for network maintenance. With one of these trains a five- week test for timber transport between the Welsh Aberystwyth and Chirk was carried out in March 2005. For this purpose, two power cars with center car for a total of £ 15,000 were rebuilt. After 19 test runs of this experiment ended on 1 April 2005.

In February 2002, the Australian CRT Group bought an MPV with seven intermediate cars for freight transport in the Melbourne area. Through an acquisition of CRT Group, this vehicle is now in possession of the QR National rail company.

For the maintenance of the high speed line HSL Zuid Netherlands Railways bought Windhoff 2008 two 100 -km / h maintenance vehicles to MPV basis.

In Switzerland, the BLS and SBB insert the vehicle as fire and rescue. The BLS bought for the Lötschberg base tunnel in 2004, referred to as LRZ 04 vehicle, the SBB to 2009 a total of eight pieces of this type, which is known there as LRZ 08.

A total of six MPV were delivered in 2008 for the maintenance of Taiwan's high-speed rail.

The Austrian construction company Alpine bought in the spring of 2011, two catenary revision drive car based on the MPV.
