British Railways Board

The British Railways Board ( BRB ) initiated and managed the British railway system from 1962 until privatization in 1997.

The BRB was created in 1962 during the reign of Conservative Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and started its work on 1 January 1963. After the privatization of the remaining stocks were transferred to BRB BRB ( Residuary ) Ltd, a 100 % subsidiary of the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA ). The extensive archive of documents, technical documents and images went to various museums and archives.
