Broad Ripple High School

The Broad Ripple High School, founded in 1886, is a high school in Indianapolis in the Indianapolis Public Schools district. The school has approximately 1,500 students who are mostly African-American ethnicity. The school mascot is a rocket ( Broad Ripple Rockets ), school colors are orange and black.

History

The Broad Ripple High School was founded in 1886 in the village of Broad Ripple and started the School with seven students. Around the turn of the century, the school was destroyed by fire, but was immediately re- established. In the following years more courses were added to the offer and the number of students rose continuously. In 1923 the school was incorporated into the Indianapolis Public Schools, Indianapolis than annexing the former individual place Broad Ripple in the city. During the 30s and 40s, the school continued to grow. During the 60s, the Broad Ripple High School was the leading urban school in Indianapolis. Formerly a school of white middle class, was Broad Ripple in the 70 years after desegregation to a school with a black majority because many white families moved to the suburbs.

Today

The campus consists of four buildings that are all connected. The school is divided into four "small schools " and houses the magnet program for the Humanities ( Humanities ) and Art (sort of).
