Broken Bow is a city and the county seat of Custer County in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

History

Broken Bow (English about: broken bow ) got its name from settlers who settled in 1879 on the site of the present town. While they were looking for a name for their post office, they found a broken bow of Pawnee Indians. The name was finally recognized in 1880 and opened the mail. In 1882 the city was planned by James P. Gandy and cultivated. The newspaper " Custer County Republican " was released in June of the same year. Was registered officially in 1884, the city of 1600 inhabitants. The Burlington & Missouri River Railroad reached Broken Bow in August of 1886 and 1894, the city had three mills, three banks, a day and three weekly newspapers, five hotels, seven churches and the South Ward Grade School. The first paved sidewalks created 1910.
