Bromeliohyla

Bromeliohyla is a genus of the family of tree frogs ( Hylidae ).

Description

The genus is defined by different genetic characteristics. Other possible synapomorphies are the reproductive behavior, where the eggs are deposited in collection of water in bromeliads, and dorsoventrally flattened body and the extended tail of the tadpoles.

Occurrence

The area in which the species occurs comprises the tropical southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and northern Honduras.

System

The genus was Bromeliohyla 2005 Faivovich et al. first described. It is named after the bromeliads, in which the animals take their eggs.
