Brothers of Charity

The Broeders van Liefde are a Catholic religious order that receives lay brothers especially.

It was founded in 1807 by Canon Peter Joseph Triest in Ghent (Belgium) and devoted himself to nursing and education. Today, several hundred brothers in Ireland, Belgium, Romania, USA, Ukraine, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Peru, Brazil, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, South Africa, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Vietnam, Republic of Congo and the Netherlands operate.
