Broughty Ferry

Broughty Ferry ( Brochty in the local dialect ) is today a suburb on the eastern outskirts of Dundee in Scotland. It lies on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, shortly before his transition into the North Sea.

The city began with the Castle Broughty Castle, which was built in 1496 and still stands on the small in the Firth protruding peninsula. The name probably comes from the Gaelic and means originally Bruach Tatha ( the banks of the Tay ). The name portion Ferry refers to the function of the site as a pier for ferries across the Firth by Tayport on the southern shore.
