Bruce Lee Rothschild

Bruce Lee Rothschild ( born August 26, 1941 in Los Angeles, California) is an American mathematician who deals with combinatorics.

Rothschild studied at Caltech with a bachelor 's degree in 1963 and his doctorate in 1967 at Øystein Ore at Yale University (A generalization of Ramsey 's theorem and a conjecture of Rota ). From 1967 to 1969 he was instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and from 1968 to 1971 consultant at Bell Laboratories. From 1971 he was assistant professor, associate professor from 1973 and from 1977 professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.

He dealt in particular with the Ramsey and published several papers with Paul Erdős and Ronald Graham, among others, the set of Graham -Rothschild ( Rothschild Parameter Sets Theorem Graham ), a basic set of Ramsey theory. For him, the set of Ramsey follow (it can be considered as an analogue of this theorem for sets parameters) and the set of Hales - Jewett.

In 1971 he was among the first recipients of the George Pólya Prize. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. From 1973 to 1975 he was Sloan Fellow.

Rothschild was from 1970 editor of the Journal of Combinatorial Theory.
