Bruce Timm

Bruce Walter Timm ( born February 8, 1961) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter, who has achieved greater prominence particularly for his work on the popular animated series like Batman or Justice League, especially in the United States.

Life

Bruce Timm had as a teenager great talent for drawing, which was, according to his teachers and parents as "unique ". In contrast to many other well-known illustrators Timm brought everything on himself, he had not attended a single drawing course his entire life.

As a child, Timm has always been a big fan of comics like Spiderman, Flash Gordon and Justice League. He would later necessarily even be a cartoonist like his great idols Jack Kirby, Harvey Kurtzman, Jim Steranko, John Buscema or Wally Wood.

Timms style was very similar to the design of the 50s and 60s comics mainly because of his great love for older comics, as well. Specific to the Art Deco style and architecture of the 1920s He is much like his colleague Genndy Tartakovsky as a great Minimalist ( he omitted in his drawings and in his figures on many details, as well many of his figures appear edged).

Timm worked for some time as a comic book artist for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, where he was fortunate in this area, a larger success. According to his former superiors he was " talented but without ambition ." Although Timm wanted to be a comic artist, he worked as a designer for animated series such as Black Star, Flash Gordon, He- Man and the Masters of the Universe and later also to the very famous and popular Tiny Toon Adventures, Warner Bros. Later, later took over tuning the complete design of the animated series Batman: the Animated Series, where he had Man Bat and the Mad Hatter designed all the characters except for Mr. Freeze ( which was drawn by Mike Mignola ) ( both of which were designed by Kevin Nowlan ).

First, the series has been criticized most vehemently because they more brutal than others, previous animated series about superheroes (such as Spider-man ) was. Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, the producer of the series, fought several times with the U.S. agency for censorship. By his own admission Timm said " We have taken on the look, we do not want the children of America destroy, we just wanted to make a good series. "

But even the biggest opponents of the series could not prevent its airing on free TV stations. The series was especially in America a great success because of the high ratings and good revenue decided the studio that Timm should make another series: Superman: The Animated Series and later also the popular series Batman of the Future, which is about 40 years after Batman: The Animated Series plays. Timm said that Batman of the Future was one of his most demanding series. As with previous series, Timm wanted to involve elements of the 60s in the science fiction series. He and his other signatory several weeks had to long to deal intensively with the future design of the 60s, and it still remodel so that it really should also look modern and innovative. In fact, the new Batman was different from the previous versions: he was younger (in this case a teenager instead of a man, which is located towards the end of 30) and he possessed ultra-modern technologies ( such as a full body armor or functioning wings, so things that at the were waived earlier Batman ). Like most series of voting previously, was also Batman of the Future a great success.

Two years later, in 2001, Bruce Timm made closer to a new project. The world's popular super heroes of the " Justice League " should all fight in a new series together against evil. Timm wanted to do without in this new series for the first time more on the design of the 60s and this time had taken on a large extent on the design of the late 80s and early 90s, in which he especially designed modern vehicles. To date, the Justice League is series, mainly as a " Justice League " is known in German-speaking countries, one of the most popular animated series at all.

Bruce Timm recently announced that his next project, the implementation of an animated film called Batman: Gotham Knight will be ( that is scheduled in time between the films Batman Begins and The Dark Knight).
