Brucefield House

Bruce Field House is a stately country house near the Scottish town of Clackmannan in Clackmannanshire unitary authority. In 1972, the building was added to the Scottish lists of monuments in the highest category A.

History

Builder was Alexander Bruce, who fought among others, during the Spanish War of Succession in Flanders and 1715 side of the government troops took part in the First Jakobeitenaufstand. He had the building built around 1724. Mid 18th century, was added to the building a two-storey extension. 1758 sold Bruce's son Robert the estate to George Abercrombie, whose daughter he married. Between 1928 and 1939 the architect James Shearer from Dunfermline was entrusted with the renovation of Bruce Field. In addition to a complete overhaul of the interior and the Harl plaster was removed completely on the facades in this course.

Description

The building is insulated around four kilometers east of Clackmannan. It has roughly an H - shaped plan, with the outgoing short wings are lowered relative to the main wing. The masonry consists of rubble stone, the window and door openings are framed with square stones. The three-story main building facing west. The windows are arranged on four vertical axes and surrounded the central entrance door. This is surmounted by an architrave, which rests on four Doric columns. The building closes with steep hipped roofs.
