Clackmannan

Clackmannan (Gaelic Clach Manann or Clach Mhanainn ) is a town in the Scottish Unitary Authority Clackmannanshire and capital of the same traditional Scottish county. It is about five kilometers south-east of the administrative center Alloa and 18 km north- west of Dunfermline located. The Firth of Forth extends about 2.5 km to the southwest. In 2001, Clackmannan recorded 3450 inhabitants.

Allegedly, was built in the 5th century on the site of a church Clackmannan. The present church was built in 1815 by James Gillespie Graham. In the city center there is the Stone ( Clack ) of mannan, which is dedicated to the sea god supposedly mannan. On a nearby hill stands the Clackmannan Tower, a strategic, fortified tower dating from the 12th century, which gives a good overview of the environment. He also served King Malcolm IV temporarily as a residence. In the 14th century it came into the possession of the Bruce ', who also built the buildings preserved to this day and extension work in the 16th and 17th centuries.
