Bruern Abbey ( Bruernia ) is a former Cistercian abbey and in Bruern about 3 km northwest of Shipton under Wynchwood and about 5 km south of Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire in England.

History

The monastery was founded in 1147 by Nicholas Basset was the sheriff in eleven counties, as a daughter house of Waverley Abbey, the first Cistercian monastery in England, from the filiation of Citeaux, donated. 1535 was one of the monastery for 15 monks and had an annual income of 136 pounds. 1536 was dissolved and its assets came to Sir Anthony Cope. The buildings were demolished in the subsequent period. Whether the essentially 18th-century great house in which there is a school for children with learning difficulties, the monastery floor plan follows is not known.
