Brun Fourca

The red variety Brun Fourca comes from France, where it is grown in the regions of Provence and Languedoc. She was admitted, for example, in the appellation range. Currently the area under surface is 25 hectares.

The late-ripening variety provides low-alcohol wines of not very good quality, which are used only in blends with other varieties. The plantings were mostly replaced by varieties Carignan or Cinsault. New plants with vines Brun Fourca are currently not known.

The grape is also known as Ribier. There are in France but also a separate variety Ribier that is not related.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is spinnwebig hairy and light green. The bright green young leaves are almost hairless, mottled shiny and bronze.
  • The medium sized, bright green leaves are five-lobed and deeply sinuate ( see also the article sheet form). The petiole is closed. The blade is serrated blunt. The teeth are medium in size compared to other varieties.
  • The cylindrical to conical bunch is medium and dichtbeerig. The slightly oval berries are large and of a bluish - black color. The berry bush is covered with a powdery wax layer. The berries are juicy.

Brun Fourca matures about 2 days after Chasselas grape variety and is one of the varieties of the late second maturation period ( see the section in the article vine ). She still ranks among the early -ripening varieties. It sprouts late. Brun Fourca is very susceptible to the downy mildew. Due to insufficient maturity of the wood, the variety can only tolerate bad winter frost.

Brun Fourca is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic drawback is avoided, no return delivered to male plants need to grow. The powerfully built strain grew provides steady returns.
