Bruno Arcari (Boxer)

Bruno Arcari ( born January 1, 1942 in Frosinone ) is an Italian former boxer and former WBC World and European champion in the light welterweight division. His manager was Rocco Agostino.

Amateur career

He was 1962 and 1963 Italian champion in the light welterweight, won the Mediterranean Games in 1963, the bronze medal at the European Championships 1963 in Moscow and represented Italy at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 1964.

Professional career

Arcari earned his first pro fight on December 11, 1964 against Franco Colella, which he lost by a technical knockout. After ten more fights, of which he won, he fought on August 10, 1966 by the Italian light welterweight belt against former champion Massimo Consolati. This fight, however, he lost by a technical knockout. He denied after two fights before he fought again against Massimo Consolati. This time he managed to win the Italian belt. After two years of successful defense of the belt he fought on the Italian May 7, 1968 finally against the European champion Hans Orsolics. Arcari won in the tenth round by a technical knockout. He defended the title for almost two years against strong opponents like Juan Albornoz. On 31 January 1970, the challenger Arcari defeated the former WBC champion Pedro Adigue Jr. convincingly on points. He defended his title for almost four years before he voluntarily gave the title to move up to the welterweight division. There, he played another 12 fights, winning all but one. In 1978 Arcari finally came back from boxing, to devote himself to his private life.
