Bruno Nicolai

Bruno Nicolai ( born May 26, 1926 in Rome, † August 16, 1991 ) was an Italian film composer.

Life

Nicolai was trained by Goffredo Petrassi at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome musical; his career was very similar to that of Ennio Morricone, with whom he was well known. Both styles are so similar that at times an identity between the two composers was suspected. Until 1974 he conducted almost all soundtracks of Ennio Morricone.

How Morricone Nicolai combined elements of classic film scores with new elements ( such as whistling, the unexpected use of choirs or high-pitched tones) and thus created the typical sound that could be heard especially in spaghetti westerns. He also worked a lot in the genre of Giallos and for Jess Franco and Alberto De Martino.
