Brunswick Monogrammist

The Braunschweiger Monogrammist is a name not known Dutch Renaissance painter of the first half of the 16th century.

Wording and question of identity

The term " Braunschweiger Monogrammist " goes back to the monogrammed painting The Great Banquet (actually " The parable of the great supper ") back, which is located in the Herzog Anton Ulrich- Museum in Braunschweig and bears the characteristic monogram. So far, however, it is not able to clarify the identity of the artist's consistent. Today, the majority of opinions tend to the fact that it could be around Jan van Amstel. Previously, Jan Sanders van Hemessen was pulled on the short list.

Art Historical classification
