Bryony Worthington, Baroness Worthington

Bryony Katherine Worthington, Baroness Worthington, of Cambridge in the County of Cambridgeshire ( born September 19, 1971 in Wales) is a British activist of the environmental movement and Labour Party politician, who is since 2011 member of the House of Lords.

Life

Bryony Worthington graduated from a post-school studies in English literature at Queens ' College, University of Cambridge. Afterwards she worked for Raleigh International, a UK-based aid organization for youth and sustainable development, as well as the mid-1990s in the environmental movement. In 2000, she joined as a staff member for the environmental organization Friends of the Earth, where they particularly concerned with issues on climate change.

After she was then assistant at the Department for Environment, Food and spatial development, and there on the Law on Climate Change ( Climate Change Act 2008) participated, she was Head of the Department of Government Relations at the power company Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE plc ). In 2008, she left that company and founded the non-profit organization Sandbag Climate Campaign CIC, organized campaigns to raise public awareness on emissions trading.

On 2 February 2011, she was raised as Life Peeress with the title Baroness Worthington, of Cambridge in the County of Cambridgeshire in the peerage and has since been a member of the House of Lords. Since 2012 Baroness Worthington who is also committed to the Weinberg Foundation, among others, the use of nuclear energy based on thorium, Whip of the Labour Group in the House of Lords.
