Brzozów

Brzozów [ bʒɔzuf ] is a town in Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland. It is also the seat of the powiat Brzozowski and the same urban and rural community.

Geography

Brzozów located 38 km south of Rzeszow on river Stobnica.

History

First settlements are said to have been 166 passed during the time of the Roman Empire. The city was chartered the place but it was only in 1359 by Casimir the Great according to Magdeburg law ( dt: Bresen, 14th century). In 1657 the city was destroyed by acts of war. In the First Partition of Poland in 1772, the city came to Austria and became part of the crown land Galicia and Lodomeria. Since the state restoration of Poland in 1918, is again in Poland. 1880 3,697 people lived in Brzozów. At the beginning of the 20th century was discovered and promoted oil in the area. Also mineral springs were discovered in this period. From 1939 to 1945, the site was occupied by the Wehrmacht. From 1975 - 1998 the village belonged to Krosno Voivodeship. She lost it returns received in 1999 at this time the status of a Powiats ( circle).

The municipality has an areal extent of 103.18 km ². 67 % of its territory is used for agriculture, 24 % is covered by forest.

Sołectwo

To the municipality include the sołectwo ( Soltysships ) Gorki, Grabownica Starzenska, Humniska, Humniska - Skrzyżowanie, Przysietnica, Stara Wies, Turze poles and Zmiennica. As well as the settlements Gołaszówka and Wola Górecka.
