Bububu

Region

Bububu is a small town on the East African island of Zanzibar in Tanzania. The village is situated approximately eight kilometers north of the island's capital, Zanzibar City ( also known as Stone Town ) on the west coast of the island and is therefore considered a suburb of the capital. East Bububus are in the range of Masingini the Forest Bububu Springs. The city is primarily a densely populated industrial city, but it is also known for its beach, which is considered one of the finest within the vicinity of the capital. In or near Bububus are numerous hotels. For Bububu approximately 48,000 residents are known for 2011. According to other sources, the city had only 13,127 inhabitants in 2002. Bububu belongs to the Tanzanian Region Zanzibar Urban / West, one of three regions located on the island of Zanzibar. The border region Zanzibar North runs but only 2.5 miles north of downtown Bububus and to the border region to Zanzibar Central / South is less than seven kilometers to the east. In the surrounding area there are numerous Bububus cinnamon plantations.

Origin of the name Bububu

The place Bububu and the name for it is something of recent origin. On old maps of Zanzibar in the late 19th century is not the place. By and by Bububu a railway line was built in 1905, connecting the area with Zanzibar town. Bububu simply referred to the sound of the steam engine ( bububububu. ..) who drove past the place. Hence the name, which in Kiswahili next to " stesheni " the word for " station " by the way.

Economy / Traffic / Education

In Bububu there are numerous dealers and retail stores that sell fruits, fresh fish and cashew nuts. The island's capital, there are regular bus service. 1905, a steam tramway was opened, probably in 1930 its operation was established. By Bububu the Malawi Road, a main road runs along the east coast of the island, connecting the Zanzibar town with Mkokotoni at the northern tip of the island. Otherwise Bububu has numerous hotels, guest houses and lodges and advertises for a holiday at the coral beach on Bububu Beach. In Bububu there is an Islamic school. Due to the large number of students, there is a morning class ( lessons from 7 bis 13 clock clock ) and an afternoon class ( lessons from 13 bis 19 clock clock ). Bububu also has a kindergarten, which is currently attended by 50 children aged four to six years.
