Bucharest Bărăția

The Bărăţia ( "Brethren Church " brat from Slovak:. , Hungarian Barat "Brother Monk " ), actually Sfânta Maria a darurilor ( " St. Mary of the gifts of grace " ), is the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Romanian capital Bucharest. It is located in the city center on the road IC Bratiano.

History

The Bărăţia Church is located in the commercial district, the site of an old Franciscan wooden church. This was replaced in 1716 by the Italian Antonio Maria del Chiaro, secretary Constantin Brâncoveanu, by a Baroque structure. The fire of Bucharest in 1847 supposedly began in the vicinity of the church. In this case, it was heavily damaged. Through generous donations from Vienna church and monastery were already built up a year later.

Building

The building of 1848 are kept in the neo-Romanesque forms. Through the powerful Tortum, to whom in the south-east frontage adjoins a former convent building, the visitor comes into the courtyard, on the opposite side of the former main building of the monastery stands. At this closes northwest of the church, a hall building with flat closing apse. The equipment dates from the second half of the 19th century, but also includes some pieces from the Baroque period.
