Buckenbowra River

The Buckenbowra River is a river in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales.

The 41 km long river rises 1.6 km northeast of the small town in the north of Monga Monga National Park, flows southeast through a series of densely forested canyons and flows about 5 km east of the town of Batemans Bay in the Clyde River.

History

The first inhabitants of this country were from the Aboriginal tribe of Walbanja. The European settlers arrived in the 1830s, was set up as an equestrian path along the river. In the 1850s this was replaced by a wild path built by prisoners Street, which stood on dry stone wall foundations. By the end of the 19th century, however, this road but was closed down again; 2005 was discovered a forgotten, 770 m long section that was left.

Flora and Fauna

The canyon through which the Buckenbowra River flows are dominated by groups from Kasuarinenbäumen. Mangroves are found endemic along the river banks; they are the only known habitat for the species of lichen there Pertusaria melaleucoides ..

The most common in the river fish species are the Australian trout pike Ling and cod perch Macquaria australasica ..
