Origin and History

Ciobanesc Românesc translates Romanian shepherd dog. It is originally a native breed from the Carpathian Mountains on the border between Romania and Serbia. Significant for the breed was especially the Bukovina region from which is derived the breed name. The ciobanesc Românesc de Bucovina was there bred as a guard dog and guard dog. The breed was recognized by the FCI in 2009 with the standard number 357 for the time being.

Description

The ciobanesc Românesc de Bucovina is a large, impressive dog with a proud attitude. Males are significantly heavier than females. The coat is at the head and front of the legs short, the body 6-9 cm long, not curly, straight and rough. The undercoat is short, dense and lighter than the outer coat. In the neck the hair is longer than on the body and forms a mane. The forelegs are feathered, the hind legs, the ciobanesc Românesc de Bucovina pants. The tail is bushy.

The classic color is white or white -beige with clearly defined gray, black or black and red spots. Brindling the patch is rejected. Pure color white, white - beige, ash-gray or black color is permissible, but not desirable.

The head is solid, but not heavy, slightly higher than the worn topline. The head is slightly curved seen from the front, seen from the side flat. The stop is only slightly pronounced. The muzzle is the same length as the skull, well developed, never pointed, with strong lower jaw. The lips are thick, heavily pigmented and fitting. The eyes are relatively small, almond -shaped and oblique, brown or slightly lighter, never yellow. The ears are set rather high, V-shaped, slightly rounded at tip, tight fit.

Nature

The ciobanesc Românesc de Bucovina is described as balanced, calm and faithful. As a guard dog, he is courageous and efficient defense against predators such as bears, wolves and lynx. Towards strangers he is suspicious. He is a good watch dog guarding independently night house and yard. As a family dog ​​he is only very limited use.
