Budha

Budha (Sanskrit बुध budha m., Literally meaning " wise man " ) in Hinduism is a personification of the eponymous planet Budha, which corresponds to the Mercury. It belongs to the traditional Indian astronomy to the Navagrahas, the nine planets, which are of importance in the life of faith as well as in Indian astrology. His name should not be with the Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, confused.

Family

Budha is the son of the moon god Chandra and Tara ( "star" ). His father kidnapped Tara, wife of Brihaspati ( "Jupiter" ), after which there was a war between the gods. Brahma arbitrated the dispute and decided that Tara would have to be brought back to Brihaspati. When she gave birth to a boy, Brihaspati and Chandra brought the paternity. The dispute threatened to break out again until Tara explained on the orders of Brahma, the Chandra the father of the child, who was named Budha was.

Budha married Ida, daughter of Manu Vaivasvata and both had a son Pururavas, who married the apsaras Urvashi. From him the moon dynasty ( Chandravamsha ) comes from, whose most famous representative of Krishna and Arjuna are.

Budha is also considered the author of several hymns of the Rigveda.
