Buffalo (Band)

Buffalo is the name of an Australian rock band formed in 1970 in Sydney under the original name " Head " by Dave Tice (vocals), Alan Milano ( vocals), John Baxter (guitar ), Peter Wells ( bass) and Paul Balbi (drums) was founded. After the band's management had problems with the name Head, the founding members eventually renamed them in Buffalo.

History

Although they were not considered as good as the beginning of her career in the Australian music scene, they could relatively soon pull a contract with the Hamburg label Phonogram ashore. Under this contract, the band released 1972-1977 out a total of five albums. Of these five albums saw Dead Forever ( on the unusually, two lead singers are heard) the first 1972, the light of the world. It ranked seamlessly into the then emerging hard rock scene with well-known bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, but tell it was in the U.S. and Europe not long gain as much attention. In Australia, however, it was enough with over 15,000 records sold to gold status.

After the debut left one of the two singers - Alan Milano - the band and Dave Tice from then on the only lead singer of the band dar. Paul Balbi was replaced by Jimmy Economou on drums. In 1973, the second and called by many connoisseurs as their best album Volcanic rock. On it there is already a bit darker style of music became apparent, with the Blues - similar to the beginning of Black Sabbath - nor was the main effect of the album. Volcanic rock in Australia also reached Gold status.

In 1974 the third album Only Want You For Your Body, on the one anknüpfte to the darker style of its predecessor and goal for him further. An orientation to Black Sabbath is therefore not excluded.

The following year, guitarist John Baxter left the group and was replaced by Norm Roue and Charles Taylor. With these two guitarists the fourth album Mothers Choice was recorded and released in 1975. A year later, Peter Wells fell out with his colleagues and founded in 1976 the band Rose Tattoo.

1977 followed the last album Average Rock ' n ' Roller with Chris Turner on guitar and Ross Sims on bass. Peter Wells was involved in spite of the rift to Average Rock ' n ' Roller at a few titles.

After fulfillment of the contract with Phonogram five albums as well as the various line-up changes 1975-1977, the band broke up.
