Buhuși

Buhuşi is a town in the district of Bacau in Romania.

Location

Buhuşi is located on the east side of the Eastern Carpathians in the valley by the river Bistrita Bistrita - Cracau. The district capital Bacau is located approximately 25 km south-east.

History

In 1438 Buhuşi was first documented erwähnt.1457 defeated on the territory of today's Ştefan cel Mare his adversary Petru Aron and thus succeeded to the throne of the principality of Moldavia. The name of the place - originally called Bodesti - transformed over the years into its present form and is derived from a noble family Buhus who has been resident in the area. Population

1828 were registered in Buhuşi 50 houses. In 1921 there were about 6,000 people in the place, 1930 - after incorporation of the two cadastral - 12,000. As a result, the population grew continuously until the Revolution in 1989 to about 22,000. As of the 2002 census, 18 746 inhabitants were registered in the city, including 18,155 Romanians, 551 Roma, 16 Hungary, 10 German and 7 Jews.

Traffic

Buhuşi lies on the railway line between Bacau and Bicaz; here there are several daily train connections. Regular bus service is inter alia to Bacau. Through the city, the National Road 15 between Bacau and Turda.
