The hydropower plant Bukse Fjord is the first hydropower plant in Greenland.

It is located south of the city of Nuuk in Greenland's fjord coast.

The power station is 600 meters deep in a mountain and consists of tunnels totaling 14 kilometers in length. The lake, from which feeds the power plant, located 249 meters above the water level in the Bukse fjord. It contains with an effective volume of 1.9 cubic kilometers more than six times the annual consumption of the power plant. After its completion, the power plant was initially equipped with two turbines, which supplied 15 megawatts each. The end of 2008 came a third turbine to, which led to a total output of 45 megawatts. With the electricity generated approximately 60 km distant Greenland capital Nuuk is supplied. For this purpose, a 57 -kilometer power line was built which also has two fjords. In order to span the Ameralik Fjord, the world's largest span was realized in the overhead line, this amounts to 5.376 km.

Meanwhile, other hydro power plants were built in Greenland or are being planned.

The American company Alcoa plans to smelt the promoted on Greenland bauxite ore using the energy generated by the hydro power plants on site.
