The Federal Highway 15 (abbreviated as BAB 15) - Short Form: Highway 15 ( Abbreviation: A 15) - is a German motorway and is also called " Spree forest highway " called. It is part of the European Route 36 ( Abbreviation: E 36 ).

It connects the triangle Spreewald on the A 13 with forest and leads to Lübbenau, Vetschau and Cottbus over to the German -Polish border at Bademeusel.

Until the reunification of this highway was completed to within a few hundred meters on the triangle Spreewald only a single lane (south side). A special feature of this route is to be noted that many bridges were destroyed by fighting in the war. These were restored in the GDR. The Spree River bridge near the junction Cottbus -South was built on the north side. In this area, the road was then pivoted. The triangle Spreewald was only in 1962 finished. Until then, the traffic to and from the A 13 in the direction of Berlin has been conducted in the oncoming traffic on the ramps ( bridge over the A15 was missing ).

During the 1990s, the north side of the highway was gradually built. The first completed section were three kilometers from the triangle Spreewald. In the course of the construction work of traffic had to be controlled by traffic lights often.

The continuation of A 15 on Polish territory is the local A 18/DK 18 ( Boleslawiec ) passes 78 km away near Boleslawiec in the Görlitz ( Zgorzelec ) A 4 and coming to Breslau ( Wrocław), Katowice (Katowice ) and Cracow (Kraków ) leads.

Until the reunification in 1990, the AVUS in Berlin ( West) had the designation A 15 now carries the designation A115

Although the motorway is mainly in west-east direction, it is contrary to the usual system with an odd number numbered, bear the otherwise only highways in north-south direction.
