The Federal Highway 524 (abbreviated BAB 524) - Short form: Highway 524 (abbreviated as A 524) - is a seven- kilometer-long highway that leads from Duisburg- Rahm motorway junction Breitscheidstraße. It emerged in the 1980s from the federal highway 288 (B 288 ), which resulted in full at the time of Krefeld to the motorway junction Breitscheidstraße.

By 2003, a portion of the Krefeld - Oppum the A 57 was designated as A 524. Here, the A57 should intersect with the A 524.

The further expansion of currently four lane B 288 to A 524 has begun of cream from west to the new motorway junction Duisburg-Süd in 2010; this section is listed as an 'absolute priority "in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan. The eastern section from the current end of the freeway to the new cross is to be opened together with the cross in 2013, the connection to the new B 8 should already be completed in 2012. The expansion of the remaining piece of the B 288 on the Rhine to the A57 belongs only to the " other needs" and is therefore currently still in the planning stage; the construction is not begun before 2015. Here, in addition to the existing listed Krefeld- Uerdinger bridge a new Rhine bridge is needed. The crossing ward home is likely to be executed as a trough or tunnel.

Effects

The effects of the new A 524 include the repeal of the existing speed limit in the amount of Angermunder road (Duisburg - Rahm ). Rahm is already traversed by a high-speed railway Deutsche Bahn, take the trains up to 200 km / hr. The resulting pre-existing noise exposure is exacerbated by the suspension.

Another effect is the demolition of the old oil mill on Verloher Kirchweg. This perpetual date a shadowy existence. Despite strong structural changes she still has a medieval core, which is so far archaeologically only insufficiently researched. It is assumed that there among other parts of the old oil mill technology.

On the other hand, the expansion of B 288 increased the A 524 road safety because the directions are separated by a median strip in the future. Side panels will provide space for the work of road maintenance or breakdowns vehicles on both sides. New noise barriers are intended to prevent the emissions of car traffic to local residents. As compensation for the interference with nature sets Straßen.NRW 32 acres of so-called compensation areas.
