The Federal Highway 535 (abbreviated as BAB 535) - Short form: Highway 535 ( Abbreviation: A 535 ) - leads from the motorway junction Velbert- North (connection to A 44 ) for Sonnborner cross in Wuppertal (connection to A 46 ) and has a length of 14 kilometers. By early November 2008, the A 535 was still largely recognized as national road 224, now the signs on the highway is consistently completed with blue motorway signs. Only the signpost on the access roads are still largely unchanged.

History

The first section was built in the course of the construction of the A46 in 1973/74 between the Sonnborner Cross and the Wuppertal district Dornap and ended there until 1990 at the Federal Highway 7 Despite its length of two kilometers (so that it was until 2007 the shortest highway Germany ) she received in anticipation of an imminent further expansion in Sonnborner cross a full connection to all four outgoing links. Although she was always marked as B 224, she made sure that by 1995, known as interchange Wuppertal- Sonnborn node ( at the time largest inner-city motorway junction in Europe) was ever a motorway junction, since apart from the A46 then take the L 74 and L 418 otherwise only end two highway-like developed country roads.

Due to the complex construction of the tunnel " Big Bush " took place only in 1990 closing the gap to temporarily erected B 224 ( n ) between Wülfrath and the interchange Velbert- Nord. The scale-up of the B 224 between Wuppertal- Dornap and the triangle Velbert- North to A 535 took place on 1 September 2007.

Planning

It was planned, the A 535 after construction of the Ruhrallee tunnel in Essen ( this is classified in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2003 as urgent requirement ) to Essen - Bergerhausen the A52 with today's route of the B 227 to extend. This has a minimum of highway-like in December 2005 between Velbert- Langenberg and food Rellinghausen. The relevant section to Essen Heisingen but was struck on 1 January 2010, the A 44.
