The Federal Highway 980 (abbreviated as BAB 980 ) - Short form: Highway 980 ( Abbreviation: A 980 ) - leads from the motorway junction Allgäu to the Federal Highway 7 past Durach to Waltenhofen junction, where it merges into the federal highway 12. She was provided as a portion of the formerly planned foothills motorway A 98. Since the planning of this route have now been abandoned, this short freeway stub was given a new name. Between junctions Durach and Waltenhofen the highway crosses the river Iller.
In December 2012, the ADAC published a statistic in which the A980 to the ten most dangerous highways heard with respect to wrong-way drivers.
