Salt Hare's Ear ( Bupleurum tenuissimum )

The salt - Hare's Ear ( Bupleurum tenuissimum ) is a one-year member of the family of Umbelliferae ( Apiaceae ) that grows preferably on salt- affected places.

Distribution and location

The salt - Hasenohr comes from central Europe to the Middle East mostly near the coast before. It prefers to grow wet-dry, premolars salt marshes and salt- affected waste places. It can also be found at the edges of weakly saline ditches. This species tolerates calcareous soils.

Its main occurrence has it in salt plants hallways. It has its main occurrence maritimae in plant communities of the Association Saginion ( beach Pearlwort corridors ). Furthermore, it is the Kennart the Association Agropyro ( Elymo ) Rumicion ( cinquefoil - couch grass lawn ).

Identifying

The salt - Hare's Ear is a small, only 10 to 40 cm, more or less erect plant that blooms from August to September. In external appearance ( habit ) it appears petite and often multi-branched. It is bluish green, ganzrandige leaves, which are linear to narrowly lanceolate. The very small individual flowers form an umbel, which is more than three units. The three to five bracts are longer than the shortest umbel rays. The petals are yellowish to orange. The gap fruit is only about 2 mm in size and appear outside grainy rough. It contains short-lived seeds.

Threats and conservation

In Germany it is on the red list of endangered vascular plants, where it is classified as " endangered Stark " as. Stocks, there are only in the federal states of Schleswig -Holstein, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania, Saxony -Anhalt and Thuringia. It is also endangered central Europe. However, it does not enjoy any special legal protection. Causes for the decline in stocks is primarily the intensification of use of extensive grassland ( drainage, fertilization, conversion to cropland ), falling into disuse of fresh and wet meadows, and the destruction of small-scale special locations.
