Burdignin

Burdignin is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Burdignin is located on 853 m above sea level. M., about 22 km east of the city of Geneva (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on a sun-exposed south-facing slope in the Vallée Verte, about 100 m above the valley floor, in the northwestern Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​9.87 km ² municipal area includes a section of the Vallée Verte. The southern and south-eastern border runs along the Menoge which drains the valley to the southwest of the Arve. The Menoge has a flat valley floor of about 200 to 500 m wide. From the river to the church floor extends northward to the adjacent wooded heights of the Alps in the Chablais. The highest point of Burdignin is located at 1298 m above sea level. M. west of the Tête du Char.

To Burdignin include various hamlet settlements (. M. 1029 m above sea level ) including Carraz (750 m above sea level. M. ) in the Vallée Verte and Chez les Roch on the southern slopes above the village. Neighboring communities of Burdignin are Saxel and Fessy in the north, Habère -Lullin in the east, the south and Villard Boëge in the West.

History

Burdignin was the first parish in the Vallée Verte; the first church was probably built in the 6th century. The place name probably goes back to the Burgundian personal names Burdinus and means for the people of Burdinus. With the Canton Boëge Burdignin moved in 1939 from district to district Bonneville Thonon -les- Bains.

Attractions

The present village church was built in 1861 in the Gothic Revival style on the site of the medieval church.

Population

With 645 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Burdignin one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. A continuous strong growth of the population since the mid- 1980s has been recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area.
