Bureau of Ships

The Bureau of Ships ( BuShips; German ship Office) of the U.S. Navy was formed by the merger of the Bureau of Construction and Repair and the Bureau of Engineering by a bill passed by the Congress of the United States on June 20, 1940 Law. The organization's mission was the management of Ships Data Book (ship data book ), a precursor of the Naval Vessel Register of the U.S. Navy. To the head of the organization was the former head of the Bureau of Engineering RAdm. Samuel M. Robinson appointed his deputy was the former head of the Bureau of Construction and Repair RAdm. Alexander H. Van Keuren.

On March 9, 1966, the Bureau of Ships was abolished in the reorganization of the Bureau system the U.S. Navy. Was succeeded by the Naval Ship Systems Command, which is now run as a Naval Sea Systems Command ( NAVSEA ).
