Burgberg Cable Car

The Castle Hill funicular is a funicular railway in 1929 was put into operation on and around the Great Castle Hill ( 485 m above sea level. NN ) in Bad Harzburg.

The cable car runs from the base station ( 291.7 m above sea level, . At the B 4 ) up near the wheel to near the summit of the Great Castle Hill located on the ruins of the Harzburg mountain station (about 483 m above sea level. ). It surmounts to 481 m in length about 186 m height difference. Integrated into the mountain station is a small museum where the history of the built by Adolf Bleichert & Co. tramway is shown.

Has the support rope to the cable car a diameter of 37 mm, the pull rope such a of 18 mm. The drive is provided with a housed in the mountain station 45 - horsepower electric motor; for emergency purposes, there is a 40 - hp diesel engine. The cable car has a 23.5 m high pillar, which is located just above the meeting point of both cabins. The maximum floor height of the cable car is 40 m.

A ride on the cable car takes about 3 minutes. A cabin can carry up to 19 people (18 passengers, Schaffner 1 ). On April 2, 2011, the cable car recorded its 25 millionth passenger.
