Castle Island with Gottorp Castle

The castle lake is a lake that belongs to the town of Schleswig. It is located in the west of the metropolitan area and covers an area of 31.83 ha. This includes the artificially enlarged castle island with a castle Gottorp, which measures 10.47 ha. This leaves 21.38 acres of water. In the north and east of the island is only separated by the 20 -meter-wide moat from the mainland (district Lollfuß ).

The lake was the most upcountry part of the loop until 1582, but was then separated by Duke Adolf by a nearly 100 -meter-long dam of this. This Gottorfer dam is 28 meters wide today. About it performs a four-lane road.
