Burhou

Burhou is a small, belonging to the Channel Islands, about 1.5 kilometers from Alderney located. Politically, it is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It is a nature reserve that is to be accessed from 15 March to 27 July prohibited. The fauna of the island include a colony of Alkenvögeln and a large number of rabbits.

1820 a hut was built as a shelter for fishermen and sailors. During the occupation of the Channel Islands by the German Wehrmacht in World War II, the cabin served as a target for shooting practice and was destroyed. 1953, a new hut was built, which is proposed by the Port Authority of Alderney to visitors.

Several times there were attempts here to keep sheep. So here in 1900 lived a French couple who left the island after one year; since there are no permanent residents more. The soil is thin and salty, often because the waves wash over the whole island. While almost the entire year there is no supply of drinking water.
