Jethou

Jethou is a small, non-public channel island near the island of Herm. The island is 18 acres in size and had three permanent residents in 1996; there is a single house (Manor House). Politically, the island is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, in the town of St. Peter Port (as well as the neighboring island of Herm ).

The island are several smaller islands and rocks in front, including Crevichon good 200 m further north, and Fauconnière Grande and Petite Fauconnière in the south.

History

From prehistoric kitchen middens, the remains of a stone circle, two standing stones and a wall are obtained. There is evidence that the country between Herm and Jethou (now Percée Passage ) was washed away by a violent storm surge in the year 709. First, the island was like the other Channel Islands in the possession of the Duke of Normandy and went with the conquest of England in 1066 into the possession of the British Royal Family. The Channel Islands are not part of the United Kingdom nor a colony, but are as Kronbesitz (English crown dependency ) directly under the British Crown. During World War II, the island was occupied by the German Wehrmacht.
