The municipality consists of Nolde, Stemmild (German: Stemmilt ), Lund, Bov (German: Construction), Burkal, Stade, Rens (German: Renz ) and Jyndevad (German: Jündewatt ), and by 2008 Grøngård (Eng.: Grunhof ) and Lydersholm (German: Lüders Holm ). In the period 1871-1920 they made all the independent rural communities, however, were in the district Buhrkall summarized.

History

Since then, the Duchy of Schleswig had solved in the 13th century by the Danish Kingdom, Burkal was almost in the same center. The north-south trade routes, however, led past the far west and east. Burkal remained a relatively sparsely populated, but comparatively large rural community. In administrative terms it belonged to Harde (Danish: Herred ) Slogs Herred (German: Schluxharde ). Only a few residential places has been temporarily other ecclesiastical or aristocratic jurisdictions.

Slogs Herred was a part of Tønder office. In the division of lands of 1544, the area fell to the elders, who built his hunting lodge Grunhof here to Duke Johann. After his death in 1580, the Tønder office fell to Gottorp, where it remained until 1713/21. The Duchy of Schleswig still existed until 1864 under the Danish Crown, and was conquered and annexed during the war in 1864 by Prussia and Austria.

The social contradictions were on the Geest far lower than in the affluent western and eastern parts of the country. Nevertheless Burkal was the first rural community in Schleswig ( and in the former Danish monarchy including Holsteins at all), who set up an arms workhouse in the 19th century in the face of new and in this form until now unheard mass poverty ( pauperism ). This populist form of social policies became popular despite many doubts in many parts of the country. However Burkal gave his prison after ten years back.

In the Prussian time the parish was divided into the above-mentioned ten rural communities. From 1889 these were common to the District Buhrkall. The old Tønder office had been remodeled with little change to the district boundaries Tønder. In the referendum on the national affiliation in 1920 voted in Buhrkall 51 % of voters and 49 % Danish German. Since the community for first zone had been placed where the total score for all of North Schleswig counted, she remained north of the new border and has since border community.

Administrative reform in 1970 devalued the parish communities as policy makers. The largest part of Burkal joined the new municipality Tingleff that worked in Aabenraa municipality in the course of municipal reform on 1 January 2007. However, the two western districts Grunhof ( Grøngaard ) and Lüders Holm ( Lydersholm ) came to Tønder Kommune, today expanded since 2007 to the "new " Tønder municipality. Of the 2022 inhabitants, the parish at the time of the municipal reform in 2007 had lived in 1882 in the field of Aabenraa Kommune, 140 in the two districts in the area of Tønder municipality. These two districts were added to the parish Hostrup Sogn on 1 January 2009.

Economy and Transport

The area- wide community Burkal is dominated by agriculture, a special role is played by the cultivation of potatoes. The Highway 8, Denmark's southernmost east-west connection, performs several places and is well developed, so that the nodes of Tønder and Tinglev (German: Tingleff ) are within easy reach. To the south is the border crossing Peper Mark, who, however, is only of local importance. The railway line Tønder - Tinglev is silent since 1974, and thus also the train station in Bov (German: Construction), the (German: Bülderup ) also for the neighboring community Bylderup was responsible and therefore Bylderup -Bov said.
