Burn (landform)

The term referred Burn in North East England, Scotland and the Otago region of New Zealand a watercourse, the size of a small stream reaches to a river.

The term comes from the Northumbrian, a dialect of Old English.

In New Zealand, the term was introduced by a native of Northumbria surveyor John Turnbull Thomson, who explored much of the South Island and mapped.

In the modern English language is " bourne " or " bourn " an appropriate term that can be found for example in the name of the town of Bournemouth.

In German, the word " Born" in its meaning "well", but also in general " water " is a related term.
